Symposium: Integrating Nature into Mental Health Services

The Fathom Trust
The weekend began meeting in The Stables at Penpont House (Penpont) where we were invited outside and led by Dr Kate Dufton in a walk in Penpont’s Labyrinth. We returned inside to hear from Alan Heeks, conservationist and author (About – Natural Happiness) We were then offered a choice of two workshops: Tree of Life with Stuart D’Arch-Smith, or Poetry with Brian Nelis. Following some time for refreshments and reflectio n, we had a talk from consultant anaesthetist Dr Francis Subash on human factors and mental well-being. After a delicious lunch we spent an hour outdoors foraging with Adele Nozedar (Brecon Beacons Foraging) as our guid,  before coming back into the Stables for a World Café, facilitated by the University of South Wales, exploring healthcare and nature-based interventions. The following day, we were joined by a local Willow Weaver and assistant who taught us us to craft our own foraging baskets to take home.
